The East Coast is proving a magnet for cloud technology.
Bloomberg, Comcast, eBay/PayPal, EBSCO, NetApp and Walmart will gather at the first OpenStack Days East to open their playbooks and exchange insights with an estimated 600 attendees at the two-day event.
Hosted at the Playstation Theater, a Broadway venue usually home to rock concerts, the event will draw in anyone wanting to learn more about OpenStack and designed so that they can hear directly from pioneering users. The event will bring IT professionals, developers and OpenStack supporters together to explore trends, challenges and plans for the project.
“We’re really looking to build on the enthusiasm and momentum around OpenStack by showcasing how it is being applied in enterprises today with some 35 sessions that relate to real-world applications of OpenStack,” said Frank Days, VP of software marketing at Tesora, one of the event organizers. “The event team has built a program that strives to keep it real so that attendees get a true sense of how OpenStack is helping organizations today and can be applied in their own work.”
Donna Scott, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, will be the guest keynote speaker talking about digital business transformation and implications for public, private and hybrid cloud platforms like OpenStack.
Kicking off day two, Jonathan Bryce, executive director, OpenStack Foundation, will deliver a keynote on the state of OpenStack today.
Other highlights among the sessions including “OpenStack by the Numbers,” which discusses disruptive trends and insights from the most recent User Survey. IBM’s Shamail Tahir, a major contributor to several work groups, and the OpenStack Foundation’s Heidi Joy Tretheway promise a myth-busting session.
“We based our presentation on questions we often hear from enterprises considering OpenStack, and critiques from media and analysts,” said Tretheway. “Then we dug into the 60-page user survey to let the data answer those questions in a powerful way.”
There has been tremendous support from the OpenStack ecosystem with sponsors that include Dell, DivvyCloud, GigaSpaces Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, IBM, Juniper Networks, Mirantis, NetApp, OpenDaylight, OpenStack Foundation, Platform9, PLUMgrid, Pure Storage, Rackspace, Red Hat, Stratoscale, SUSE, Talligent, Tesora, Ubuntu, VMware and ZeroStack.
This community event is guided by a steering committee that includes representatives from the east coast OpenStack Meetups and organized by Tesora and GigaSpaces.
