How has open infrastructure transformed the organization’s business?
Faster integration of rebuilds from weeks to days, gating as default with increased quality for all application code in Volvo Cars new Core computer (where there are decent pipelines in Zuul).
Zuul is the default CI system in Volvo Cars Corporation, when it comes to the code in the car.
How has the organization participated in or contributed to an open source project?
To a small degree, we have partnered with James Blair in ACME Gating, which does the job for us. In this way, we have contributed quite a lot, because he is always including what he does upstream to the open source project.
But our suppliers Aurobay and Zenseact have started using Zuul and Zenseact contributes some.
What open source technologies does the organization use in its open infrastructure environment?

What is the scale of your open infrastructure environment?
Our Zuul instance runs in a K8 with 6 schedulers and 10 executors. We run around 500 nodes in parallel and around 4,000 jobs each 24h.
What kind of operational challenges have you overcome during your experience with open infrastructure?
Rolling upgrades have sometimes failed. Our uncontrolled growth led us to problems with event job time, and the total amount of time elapsed from when a trigger event was received from the remote system until the item’s first job is run.
This was overcome by optimizing Zuul’s reconfigurations, and by splitting our large tenants into smaller ones.
How is this team innovating with open infrastructure?
ACME gating in LA time zone is great, because when we arrive in the morning we have new images of Zuul to test!
