How has open infrastructure transformed the organization’s business?
Exclusive cloud platform based on OpenStack virtualization technology: Instead of using traditional servers and storage devices, Suzhong Construction Group deploys the business system on the cloud, and all data is stored on the cloud, which reduces hardware procurement costs significantly. The way of resource scheduling and use has been optimized comprehensively. Cloud offerings can be commissioned quickly and launched in the production environment. The business can be launched out of the box and can be scaled flexibly so that resources can be utilized effectively. Overall application delivery time is reduced by 40%, the operation and maintenance cost is reduced by 55%, and the cloud data is stored in multiple copies, ensuring the data reliability greatly.
How has the organization participated in or contributed to an open source project?
Suzhong Construction Group actively participates in community activities and shares its experience in using OpenStack. Suzhong Construction Group deploys OpenStack cloud computing products of Huayun Data. As the partner, Huayun Data has been persisting in innovating its products and solutions, while focusing on the development and integration of cloud computing industry. Huayun Data integrates a large number of its core mature technologies around the OpenStack platform and offers cloud computing solutions with higher performance, efficiency and reliability. For open source industry, Huayun Data has been promoting the industrialization of OpenStack and other open source technologies in China and accelerating the innovation and development of the cloud computing industry in China.
What open source technologies does the organization use in its open infrastructure environment?
The technology stack used on the platform is built with open source tools, including OpenStack, KVM, Centos, Ceph, Mariadb, stackwatch, rabbitmq, influxdb, notification, HAProxy, keep alived, Nginx, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, ELK, Grafana and other open source technologies. Core projects of OpenStack used include Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Horizon, Heat, Billing and ceilometer. All these addresses the issues of cross-version upgrade and deployment challenges such as multi-region management and cloud platform security.
What is the scale of your open infrastructure environment?
The cloud platform is the secondary development based on open source software – OpenStack. Currently, it has been deployed in more than 20 nodes, and a virtual resource pool has been built. The resource pool hosts thousands of cloud server applications that guarantee stable operation of multiple system services including the financial system, OA system, CRM system, site monitoring and integrated business-finance system. In addition, it can provide sufficient elastic resources during the peak period of the business.
What kind of operational challenges have you overcome during your experience with open infrastructure?
At the peak period of the settlement business at the end of month, end quarter and end of year, the cluster performance is a challenge. Through technical innovation to improve the storage parameter configuration of CEPH cluster, the performance of the storage resource pool has been guaranteed effectively. Moreover, the physical server accesses the underlying virtualization cluster to provide relevant services, which improves the efficiency of accessing to business data greatly.
How is this team innovating with open infrastructure?
Cloud resource management: The cloud management platform offers a Web-based visual self-service platform, and it can provide unified management and scheduling of a variety of virtual resources, such as VMs, private network, public network, block storage, image, SDN (load balancing, firewall, router, VPN), etc.
Heterogeneous resource management: the base resource platform can manage existing physical servers and heterogeneous storage centrally. Physical resources can be used as independent resources or can be incorporated into virtual resource pool; storage devices that support OpenStack standard interface will be managed centrally as the storage service.
